10 Months!

Rebecca is 10 months old today.  Double digits!  Here are the things she's been up to lately:

  • Moving.  At all times.  She's climbing anything and everything she possibly can even if it's not a stable surface.  She's cruising along the edges of furniture and crawling all over the place.
  • Touching everything!  She cannot leave anything alone.  Even at the grocery store today, she had her little hand sticking out of the cart touching products as we walked down the aisle.  She totally takes after me in that area.  When I was little, I always heard "Laura, put your hands in your pockets" anytime we were out shopping.  I had to keep my hands in my pockets to prevent me from breaking things!
  • Playing with trash.  She loves any piece of paper, catalog, tissue, napkin, straw rapper, etc. that she can play with.  We joke that she's going to be a trash collector someday!!
  • Eating more finger foods.  She's really enjoying cheese right now.  I cut up a little bit of string cheese or cheddar into little cubes and she loves it!  Goes crazy for it!  She's also enjoying fresh fruit cut up into pieces.
  • Sleeping better!  We got her sleeping through the night a few months ago, but she still was fighting her naps and we never forced it.  Finally a few weeks ago, we had to do the cry it out training at nap time.  Now, we can put her down at specific times in the day, wide awake, and she knows how to put herself to sleep without crying (about 98% of the time).
Remember how the first bullet above talks about how she's moving all the time.  Let's just say that made it VERY difficult to get a decent 10 month picture this month.  Here's the best one of the bunch:

Here's a really cute picture of her sleeping this morning.  As you can see, both of her feet are sticking out the slats of the crib, and she has her arm around her stuffed monkey!

For our last story of the day...think back to one of my first posts from October 2012.  I referred to Rebecca as Houdini for getting out of her swaddle so easily.  Click here to read the post if you want.

She performed an even MORE Houdini-like trick a few days ago.  We have started to close all the doors to the bedrooms in the evenings and let her crawl up and down the hallway.  There's really nothing she could get in to, so she's able to crawl around without us having to watch her every second.  So the other night, we were letting her crawl around and I heard her making some more excited noises than normal.  So I walked down the hall to see what she was doing.  I rounded the corner expecting to see her sitting there and she wasn't there.  I totally freaked out.  My heart started beating so fast and I called for Mike.  Now logically, nothing horrible could have happened.  Nobody could have stolen her and she couldn't have just vanished into thin air, but still.  I opened  a cupboard door that's in the hallway - not there.  Then I heard her from BEHIND one of the doors!!  How on earth did she get in there?  Well, then Mike pointed out that the office door doesn't latch very well.  So when I had pulled it closed, it wasn't really closed.  She was able to open the door, go in the room and then close the door behind her.  We had her re-enact her magical ways.  Sorry, this video is sideways, but you'll get the idea.  Enjoy!
