This is the second installment in my Vacation series: New York.
After Mike, Rebecca and I left New Hampshire, we drove back to Boston and flew in to New York. That part was pretty uneventful. We got to our hotel and had a few hours to kill before we met up with the family. This is where it got interesting. We set out onto the streets of Manhattan with a baby in a stroller just trying to find some simple food. Everything seemed weird and we were walking and walking and walking. I hate big cities! I know some people thrive on the hustle and bustle, but I do not. Especially when I don't know where I'm going AND when I have a baby in a stroller! We eventually found a very weird pizza place and ate there. As we were headed back to our hotel, it started to rain! What do people in big cities do with babies and rain and walking? Anyway, we waited out the worst of it and then just made a quick walk back.
A bit later we met up with the family. And when I say "the family" I'm talking about 21 or 22 people! It consisted of my parents and my brother, sis-in-law, niece and nephew...My aunt Camille and almost all of her kids and some of their spouses, and their kids! It was crazy and loud but awesome. I haven't seen some of them since the early 90s! But my Aunt Camille and my Cousin Stacey I've seen more recently. Technically, Aunt Camille is my 1st cousin, once removed and Stacey is my 2nd cousin...but that's just awkward sounding.
Being with them is so much fun. We've always lived on opposite ends of the country, but it still feels like close family with them. Stacey and I became closer on our family trip to Italy about 5 years ago. My dad always says it's like we're long lost sisters. We have similar personalities and senses of humor. We sat at dinner that night with all this loud craziness around us and had a very nice heart to heart chat, which I loved. I loved having Rebecca meet all of my wonderful NY family!
The day after the big family dinner, my mom and dad, my brother's family and us boarded the Norwegian Breakaway for a cruise to Bermuda. That will be detailed in my third installment, but there are pics of boarding the ship and when we left the NY port in this post.
Here are some pics:
