We had some windy weather recently and I took Rebecca to the park to fly a kite. Of course, as soon as we got there, the wind died down. But...she was thrilled when she saw the kite "soar" to a whopping 3 feet off the ground! Here she is flying her kite:
School is going well for her. The first week and a half was a little rough when it came to dropping her off. She cried even when she knew it was time to get dressed and by the time Mike had her at the school she would scream "Daddy!!". But by the end of last week she was happy to be there and just waved bye bye.
She did have one "incident" last week. Another kid bit her! Poor little thing. Apparently she had a toy that he wanted so he bit her hand. It didn't break the skin, but it was hard enough to leave a mark even 8 hours after it happened. Here's a pic:
Mike was ready to have the kid hauled off to jail, but I reminded them that they are 2, and it is highly likely that Rebecca will be hitting or biting someone soon and we will have to deal with the flip side of this situation.
She's making AMAZING progress with her speech. I'm not kidding when we're probably averaging a new word every day. This past weekend, she was playing with her plastic food and she said lettuce, egg and cupcake. Pretty clearly. I didn't know she even knew those words!
She's also a whiz at the alphabet. She recognizes every letter and can say what sound it makes. Now we're working on saying them in order.
The big drama we've had in the past week (aside from her being assaulted by that other kid's teeth) is sleep issues. It's been over a year since we've had to deal with that. She's waking up between 3 and 4 most mornings! We figured it had to do with separation anxiety relating to going to school. Yesterday we started the same sleep training we did when she was an infant and hope to make progress before I run away from home!
Last but not least...a funny story. Yesterday she was watching a Halloween episode of a cartoon she likes. In it, one of the kids is rolling a wagon with a giant pumpkin in the back. The wagon hits a rock and the pumpkin goes flying out of the wagon and rolling down a hill. When that happened, she freaked out! Started crying - like serious crying - and saying "oh no" over and over. I calmed her down, thought it was funny that she'd get so in to a show like that. Later that evening, she was watching a show on the ipad. In it, this giant machine that makes meatballs goes out of control and thousands of meatballs come rolling out of the restaurant and all over the city. Again, she freaked out. Tears and everything. Weird coincidence that both of these things had rolling items in them? Is she afraid of things that roll? Hmmm.
