Catching Up

As usual, we've had a busy few weeks, so here's a little catching up.

Rebecca is amazing.  I know, you'd expect me to say that, right?  But really, she is.  She continues to learn and grow and say amazing things.  She talks a lot.  A LOT!!  I know, not that long ago we were worried that she was a little behind in her speech and people would warn us "just wait til she starts talking and you'll wish she'd stop!"  Ummm...a little true, I must say!

She is doing a really great job with potty training.  I know, you were all just dying to know this.  She makes it through most days with no accidents and is really only using a diaper at night.

She is also singing a lot!  Just like mommy, she memorizes songs really quickly.  After I sing them to her a few times, she already has many of the lyrics down.  Her latest favorites are:  Do Re Mi (from Sound of Music), You're a Grand Old Flag and My Country Tis of Thee.  It is so cute!  Those last two songs she'll request and say "I want to sing the 'merica (America) songs".  I also sang the Marine Hymn the other day and now she requests that one as "the new one" and know that we will sing it for Uncle Blair when she knows it.  We sing Do Re Mi in the car pretty much every day and just before bed.  She knows all the words.  It is SO cute!  And I love sharing my love of singing and my love of The Sound of Music with her.

Here are some pics to catch up on everything else:
She needed a hat for Crazy Hat Day at school - this is what we got.  Technically, not a hat...but she loves it!  Her love of Minnie Mouse continues on!
These next few pictures are of one of our indoor picnics that we have.  It was expected to rain that day, so we planned ahead.  I made a little hopscotch thing out of painters tape on the floor and we also played treasure hunt with some plastic "gold" coins.  You'll see that she's wearing some very elegant, genuine plastic earrings (those were her prize for winning the treasure hunt).

Eating a very fancy dinner with her new jewels!
We are going to the music class through our city Parks & Rec.  This is the 3rd or 4th time we've done the class and she loves it.  She looks forward to it and especially loves the end of class when she gets to play real instruments.  Her favorite song this session has been Ring Around the Rosy.

A close second to Minnie Mouse is the characters on this shirt from a show called Team Umizoomi.  She loves this show, and I love it for what it teaches.  The team says their superhero powers are "Mighty math powers" and Rebecca says that she has mighty math powers too.
I took this pic trying to capture her new Minnie Mouse flip flops, but it turns out that the mischievous look on her face was even more funny.  I like to say that she's thinking up ways to make things more difficult for me!
She doesn't seem to be a huge fan of dresses, but I convinced her to wear this one since it has Minnie on it.  She just looked like such a big girl.
So, obviously, I've talked about how wonderful and smart and cute she is.  However...she also continues to be a typical 2 year old.  Tantrums, being sassy, talking back, etc.  She has also deployed a new weapon that pierces us to the very core.  If she's mad at you for telling her 'no' or something else she says "I don't love you".  Talk about breaking a mother's heart!  I don't think she knows what it means, but knows enough to use that in a time when she's upset.  I've tried to talk to her about it and to explain that it's hurtful...but not really sure how much she understands.  I hope she outgrows that particular phrase in a hurry!

Sounds like we have a new member of summer sing-a-longs. She better learn to make good treats and make a fool of herself.
