R is for...Rebecca!

When my Grandma moved from her home to a facility close to 20 years ago, I did some recon and found a few favorite things/memories that I wanted to keep.  One of the things I wound up keeping was a tin of buttons.  I love old buttons.  Over the years I've had many grand ideas about what I would do with them - cover an old frame, make a mosaic table top, etc.  None of them have ever happened.

When I got turned on to Pinterest last year, I saw other cool things people were doing with buttons.  Simpler things like artwork for the home, letters, etc.  So...I was on to something new.  I thought I'd make something for Rebecca out of my Grandma's buttons.  And then I decided to make it even more fun...I added my own buttons, some of my mom's, my Aunt Ruth's and my Aunt Camille's.  They all sent me their hard-earned button collections.  Here is what I made:

Rebecca is mostly excited about this because there are 2 red buttons that are shaped exactly like M&Ms!!  I will hang this up in her room, and type up a little story about who all the buttons are from.

As I mentioned in my last post, Rebecca is becoming very particular about fashion.  Here are the mandates I've been given:  No dresses, no bows, no pink.  She even turned down a cute pair of red Converse tennis shoes because they had a "bow" (aka - the shoe laces were tied)!  So, when it got cold and rainy last week, I didn't have a lot of choices for warmer clothes for her.  I had to resort to a Minnie Mouse outfit that my mom got for her.  I wasn't sure she'd wear it because Minnie has a GIANT bow on her head.  But...she loved it.  When I was putting it on her she said "I wonder if my teacher will like my beautiful Minnie Mouse outfit"!  So cute!  I wanted to take a pic of her in the outfit for my mom but she is also not in to taking pictures these days.  However, bribery works.  I offered her 2 M&Ms to pose for a picture and she obliged!

Then I wished I could take my bribe back because these are the pictures I got:

This one wasn't very good, so I said..."put your hands to your side".  Then I got this:
So then I said "open your eyes", and I got this:
Eyes/mouth...whatever.  So then I said "close your mouth and look at me" and I got this:
Then, one last time "close your mouth and smile and put your hands down"
So then she grabbed on to the front of the shirt.  This is the best I could do!
Aside from all of that, we've just been busy with the usual stuff.  Here are a few other pics:

We went to the park, and she literally dove into the sand box!
I had to bribe her for this one too!  How cute are 2 year olds in capri pants!
Rebecca loves books.  She is now "reading" them to us.  She loves going to the library too.  Not sure if you can tell in this picture, but we had just gone to the library.  She moved 2 end tables together and pulled up a stool.  She said she needed a desk so she could read her books.  Please note the irony of the title of the book she's reading "Sophie's Terrible Twos"!
Here she is reading again.  We had a big cardboard box which she lined with her blanket, climbed in and got a book to read.  I love it!!
One last funny story.  This is one that she will kill me for telling someday.  She's been doing really great with potty training.  Only 1 or 2 accidents a month at this point.  So we were all just sitting around one afternoon and she looked up and said "I pooped"!  As I was getting up for the super fun chore of cleaning that up, she ran down the hallway with her arm across her forehead and very, very dramatically said, "My day is ruined"!

Good times!
