I'm referring to my mom and dad's 50th anniversary which took place on February 5th (also mine and Mike's 5th)!
They had a wonderful party at a super cool and fun Italian restaurant up by their house. I think there was about 75 guests. It was a lot of family friends I've known my entire life...people who are like a 2nd family to me. Some wonderful family, a whole bunch of friends and old neighbors who I haven't seen in YEARS. It was kind of magical.
My mom and dad had a wonderful time - and so did all of us. They hired an amazing accordion player for entertainment. Sounds kinda lame, right? It was not. He was SO good. He played all these old songs from back in the day. At one point he even played Do-Re-Mi from Sound of Music, so you know I'm going to love him! There was also a singer that came in for part of it. She was really, really good. She continued to sing some of the oldies and also did some Italian arias- all stuff most people would recognize. SO fun!
One of the highlights of the evening was a video that me and Mike, my brother Blair and my sis-in-law Sheila had professionally made for them. It was a compilation of all these old pics, music and an interview I did with my mom and dad a few months ago. We played about 15 minutes of it during the party. It went well, I think.
I did a quick introduction to the video for the group and I had all planned out what I wanted to say. I got choked up after about 3 words, so I cut it short. Here's what I was going to say:
I went to a big Hallmark store to buy my parents a 50th anniversary card. I figured that was the best place to go for selection. When I got there though, there were only about 6 choices. It just made me realize even more how rare it is for people to be married for 50 years! It sounds kind of weird for a child to say that they are proud of their parents, but I am. I am so proud of them for this accomplishment and for being such great parents and examples to all of us.
Or something like that.
Anyway - here are a few pics - past and present:

Oh I just adore your parents! They are 2 of the kindest people I have ever met. What a blessing and example there are to so many.
And their party sounds like my dream! Italian food, all of my favorite people and an accordion player? That's the life!!
