Delicates

Last week after dance class, I took off her leotard and tights and put them in one of those zippered bags before I tossed it in the hamper.  She asked me why I did that and I told her that some clothes are called "delicates" and that meant you had to wash them extra special and not put them in the dryer.

So, after dance on Monday this week, I took everything off and just tossed it in the hamper.  She screamed "NO!!!!" and I thought I hurt her or something.

Me:  What's wrong - what happened?
Rebecca:  Mommy - you can't put those in the hamper!
Me:  Why?
Rebecca:  Because they're.....what's that word where you have to put them in the bag?
Me:  Oh...delicates?
Rebecca:  Yes, you have to put them in the bag because they're delicates!

HOW on earth does she remember stuff like that?

Speaking of dance - here's a pic from Monday:

And from the Kids Say The Darndest Things desk...

A couple weeks ago she dumped out all the coins from her piggy bank so she could put them in a new bank she got for Christmas.  She had them all out on the carpet and was just running her hands through them and sprinkling them down on her hands.  Then she said "Mommy...all this money makes my heart happier"!

And another story showing how insightful and clever she is:

She was eating some Pez candy and she had a few different dispensers to choose from that she got for Christmas.  She chose one that had Santa's head on it.  Then she said, very thoughtfully, "Why did Santa Claus put Santa Claus on this pez?".  Good question.

Here are some more pics from the last week or so:

At the park

There's a tiny little park right near her school that she likes to stop at sometimes.  We did last week and she was just running around.  There were some little boys there that she wanted to play with.  The oldest, George, was about 6 I think.  He was so sweet with Rebecca - offered to help her on the playground equipment, etc.  Well, she wanted to pick dandelions.  George was having a blast picking flowers with her.  Meanwhile, his dad was trying to get him to practice baseball.  I don't think the dad was too happy that he chose to pick flowers with a girl!!  This pic shows the fruits of their labors in a little pile.

Yes.  Yes, that's MY daughter wearing a dress.  Shocking, I know.  My dear friend Laurie got married on Saturday.  Rebecca adores her.  I told her that most of the ladies would probably wear dresses, so she went along with it.  As long as it didn't have a bow or a flower.

She dressed up as Tinkerbelle for Halloween when she was 2...but the costume still fits.  She's been very interested in Tink lately...watching the shows and movies.  The other night, she put on the costume and just wanted to sit in it and watch her shows.

Overall, she's doing great.  Very smart.  But...we're really struggling with her behavior.  Defiance, sassiness, outright meanness sometimes.  I've had to walk away a few times because I get so angry with her.  Hopefully this passes.  Why doesn't anyone ever talk about the Terrible Threes???

Finally, here is a series of pics from a couple days ago.  We went to the park and she saw all these leaves.  So, we worked for a few minutes to gather up all the leaves so she could jump in them.  Then, she wanted to go find another kid to jump with her.  She invited a little boy named Ian and his mom to come play.  It was so cute.  So yes, she's friendly to strangers...but not to mommy and daddy!
