Summer Fun

We've all been experiencing some big changes around here - especially relating to Rebecca at school.  She has been transitioning into her new class that will officially start in September.  She has tested into an accelerated pre-school program that essentially teaches an old Kindergarten curriculum.  So, the work is harder and there's more of it.  But, she was bored in her old class and I think it will be good for her in the long run.  She's not enjoying the transition that much though and we've had some tearful mornings and cries of "I don't want to go to school"!  I didn't think that would start for a few more years!

Here's what else we've been up to lately:

Here she is at music class - she loves the drums!

This is a paper the school gives us every day to say what they learned, what they ate and how well they napped.  This one just cracked me up...they had to create a special box for Rebecca this day!  Needless to say, she was a crab when she got home!

Here's a drawing she did of a genie from a show she watches.  It's one of the first times I've seen her use different colors in the same picture.

Another drawing of a different show she likes - one called PJ Masks about superheroes.

Picking apricots with grandpa!

When we were up at my mom and dad's Rebecca wanted to make mud pies.  We don't really have a place to do that at our house, but I knew my dad had this spot we could use.  I bought some cheap foil pans at the dollar store and we started making a mess.  It was pretty fun!

Some of our pies all lined up "cooking" in the heat.

There were a bunch of caterpillars coming out of the grass at my parents.  It was so cute to watch her get down on the ground and just watch them.  She pronounces it calla-pitter!

I found a sand art kit online and though we might like to do it.  We took it outside and just went to town making creations.

On 4th of July we were invited to a block party where one of her school friends lives.  They had a bike parade, so we decorated.  There were probably 300 people riding bikes, walking, pushing strollers, etc. in the parade and the local fire truck even headed up the parade.

Rebecca and her friend.

Daddy got to push Rebecca in the parade.

My little American cutie!

Watermelon eating contest on the 4th.

We have a little bowler on our hands.  She really enjoys it.  Our bowling alley had a deal for the summer where you could bowl up to 3 games every day for the whole summer for like $35.  Which is a great deal!  So, when it's hot, we swing by on the way home from school.

Warming up before swimming class

We went on a hike at a nature center nearby.  Here she is in the little building looking at bugs and nature stuff.

On our hike!

This has become another great after school activity when it's hot - a splash pad.  She was afraid of it last summer, but LOVES it now!

As you can see, we've been busy.  We feel like we have to keep her busy or she will drive us nuts.  Well, actually, I think we've already been driven nuts, but MORE nuts!  She is still always on the go.  She is reading more and more which just amazes me.  I know all parents say there kid is a genius...but really, ours is!  OK, maybe not a genius, but really smart.  Too smart sometimes!  We love her so much even though there are many many days where she has us pulling our hair out!  She is a joy and a terror all rolled in to one...I guess that pretty much describes parenting for most people.

Here's another little treat for you.  She did this all by herself, by the way!  Remember, you can't watch these videos on Apple devices.
