"When I grow up...."

Sorry it's been so long.

For most kids, when they say the sentence "when I grow up...", it's usually something like "I'm going to be a teacher" or "I'm going to be a zookeeper" or whatever.  But no, not my child!

We were out for lunch on Monday and I took Rebecca to the restroom.  On our way there, she saw the bar area of the restaurant.  She asked me what it was.  I told her it was the bar where grown-ups have special drinks just for grown-ups.  She asked why grown-ups had special drinks.  I told her some people just really liked those kinds of drinks.  She said, "Well, when I grow up, I'm gonna LOVE the bar"!  Wonderful.  Just wonderful.

We had a very busy weekend.  We decided to go down to Long Beach and do a little 45 minute boat ride. It was cool because we got to pass right by the Queen Mary where we got married.  Rebecca also got to see some sea lions who were putting on quite a show right in front of a big buoy.  We also stopped at a carousel on the boardwalk area.

Here are some pics:

I had to bribe her with $1 to smile nicely for this pic.

A few weeks ago, we went to a children's museum  not too far from our house.  They had a Dora the Explorer exhibit that we thought she'd love.  She wasn't too impressed with most of it, but here are a few highlights:

There was a little animal hospital where the kids could pick up a stuffed animal and scan it.  It would tell them what kind of animal it was and why it was sick.  Then there was an area where they could "wash" the animals, etc.  She spent several minutes in this area.

This was, by far, the best part of the day.  A climbing wall.  I think they were supposed to pretend to be some sort of animal.  She LOVED it.  She probably did it 10 times.

Monkey bars!
And here are a few other things we've been doing:

We're working on hard on writing.  She's doing pretty good with her name now.  This is probably from a month ago, and it's even better now.

At the park

I saw a craft on pinterest to make bird feeders.  And since we have a nest on one side of our house, I thought if we made one, they would come.  Now some of you know this was a great personal sacrifice for me since I'm afraid of birds.  After we were done with the craft, Rebecca decided she wanted to walk the neighborhood and sprinkle bird seed all over.

This was how long her hair was just a couple of weeks ago.  She wanted to cut it and get bangs.  You can see that in the pics from this weekend.

Mike took her out for ice cream and she made this face...just cracked me up.

She's back in swimming classes.  Mike took her on Mother's Day and I guess the teacher had the kids stand at the edge of the pool and he would guide them to jumping in.  I don't think Rebecca liked that idea too much because apparently she looked at the teacher and said, "are you kidding me"? when he asked her to jump!!

Other than that, we've really been struggling with behavior lately.  She gets in these frenzies where she runs around like a maniac and won't be stopped.  She also is very mean sometimes - spits, kicks, throws things at me, etc.  It really makes parenting so difficult...and not nearly as fun as it looks on TV!!

She'll grow out of it though...right???
