Christmas Fun

We had a really fun Christmas up at my mom and dad's house.  My brother, sis-in-law and niece and nephew were in town, so it made for a loud, chaotic and fun time!

Here are some pics (and stories):

Gingerbread House!
The first group of pictures is our annual gingerbread house.  Mike and I started the tradition the first year we were dating, and have continued it.  We decorate some sort of house, train, cookie, etc.  Rebecca really got into it this year.  Of course, she selected the Mickey & Minnie house kit.  Really, all she wanted to do was eat the candy and icing, but she got a little decorating in too!

On Our Way to Grandma & Grandpa's house:

Here she is before we left for my mom and dad's.  So cute.  Also, it's a long drive (about 2 1/2 hours), so we usually stop at a McDonald's about half way to use the restroom.  This time, she was so antsy, so we got out and let her play in the indoor play area they have, she had a blast!

A Gift For My Mom:
For years, I've had this little green child's apron in my hope chest.  Several months ago, me and my mom were talking about it and I found out it was hers when she was a child.  The word "Daughter" was embroidered on the front, and my mom said my grandma had a matching one that said "Mother", which we no longer have.

Anyway, I decided to have it professionally framed for her this year.  To go with that gift, I had aprons made for my mom, me, my sis-in-law and Rebecca and my niece.  We all wore them and cooked together.  Fun memory!!

A Gift For My Dad:
Anyone who reads this blog knows that my dad is a Patriot.  And yes, I capitalized that word on purpose.  As evidence of that patriotism, he has an entire room decorated in Americana decor.  I wanted to make something meaningful to add to that room.  So, since all of his grandkids would be together this Christmas, I got them each a canvas and told them to make their interpretation of a flag or something else patriotic.

They all worked very hard (Rebecca a little less hard than the other two, but she's only 2!) and I inserted them into a custom frame I had made.  The result was amazing!  They all did such a great job!  Here are some pics of them while they were painting and the finished pic (Rebecca had a fit and chose not to be in that picture!):

The Annual Meatball Party!
Yes, we have meatballs and sausage and lasagna on Christmas Eve.  It's the Italian side of the family, obviously!  It's been a tradition for many years to have the kids help with the meatballs.  Rebecca liked adding ingredients, but didn't love getting raw hamburger on her hands!

1st Annual ChrismOlympics:
I wanted to do something fun with the family aside from just playing cards.  So, I put together a few Minute to Win It style games.  It started out a little bumpy, but the last 2 games were hilarious!  One, was stacking cups in a pyramid with one hand and then unstacking them.  The other was putting a gingerbread cookie on your forehead and using only your face muscles, scooting it down to your mouth!  Good times!  Oh, and one really cool picture I got of almost all of us launching some foam glider planes.

Presents & Miscellaneous Christmas Cuteness:
Everyone was very generous with us (THANK YOU) and Rebecca this year.  She had a lot of fun with all of her presents and she really enjoyed playing with her cousin.  It was so cute to watch them together.

Love this post and all the pictures. First -- I can't believe how long Rebecca's hair is. Second -- nor can I believe how old your niece and nephew are! Third -- loved the aprons, those are adorable. And Fourth -- of course Rebecca doesn't like raw hamburger meat on her hands -- who does?
