Early on in my pregnancy, Mike and I would go to the library every few weeks and get a bunch of children's books. Then, pretty much each night, Mike would read a story or two to my tummy, to the baby we were then calling Poppy (more on that another time). It was a good way for us to bond as a family and for the baby to start recognizing Mike's voice.
Out of the 100 or so books we read, there were some amazingly cute and clever stories - and a ton of stories where after we were done reading, we'd say "How on earth did that one ever get published"? Anyway, I think my favorite out of all of them was called Ella Kazoo Will Not Brush Her Hair by Lee Fox. It's about a little girl who has crazy curly hair (sound familiar) who doesn't want to brush it or cut it or anything. It gets crazier and crazier as the story goes on until her hair fills her whole room, has animals living in it, is the place where all lost thing live, etc. It is a really cute story and the illustrations are funny. I think Santa might bring that one to Rebecca for Christmas this year.
Another of our favorites was called Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. It's the story of a little pea who is forced to eat candy for dinner every night, and the little pea just hates it. I just got another book by the same author called Litte Hoot, basically the story of a little owl who is forced to stay up late every night. The little blurb on the back of the book says "When I grown up, I'm going to let my kids go to bed as early as they want." So cute! So clever! I find that I really enjoy the wit of this author.
This last time, I got another book of hers called Cookies Bite-Size Life Lessons. There are sentences like "Patient means waiting and waiting for the cookies to be done", "Proud means, my chin is high, and I sure do like the way my cookies turned out", "Modest means you don't run around telling everyone you make the best cookies, even if you know it to be true", "Trustworthy means, if you ask me to hold your cookie until you come back, when you come back, I will still be holding your cookie" and "Content menas sitting on the steps - just you, me, and a couple of cookies". Isn't that cute? So perfect for me!!
Here are some pictures of Rebecca with her books:
